Chapala Birders

Friday August 16, the Lake Chapala Birders will meet 8 a.m. at the Sculpture in La Floresta, leaving immediately for the Rosa Amarilla Loop (a one-hour drive). Expect to see a variety of grassland birds and possibly a white-tailed hawk. Bring refreshments for the morning and sandwiches for the 12:30 p.m. lunch stop. Legion fundraiser

American Legion Post 7 Chapala Ladies Auxiliary is holding a Pancake Fundraiser in support of the Little Blue School House, Saturday, August 17, 9 to 11:30 a.m. The 250-peso ticket includes blueberry pancakes or hash brown casserole, bacon or sausage, fruit, coffee or tea.

BBQ for La Ola

Rangers Texas-style BBQ in El Salto is holding a BBQ benefit for La Ola girls home Saturday, August 31, 4 to 9 p.m. to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

Tickets, 500 pesos, includes a draft beer or soft drink, BBQ smoked by special Texan and Mexican friends: Old Jimmy’s BBQ whole hog, brisket, Roegels barbecue, Tejas Chocolate & Barbecue mango-jalepeño pork ribs, smoked chicken wings in burnt ends white Alabama sauce, LJs BBQ from Benham, Texas, Jalapeño Cheddar sausage from Rangers BBQ.

Live music will be performed by BluesBird and Jimmy El Vaquero. There will be transportation to and from lakeside for an additional 150 pesos, leaving from behind Black Coffee on August 31, 3 p.m., payable on the bus. Your ticket enters you in door prize raffles and the grand prize of a party for 20 at Rangers. 100 percent of ticket sales go to La Ola. The older girls at the home will be waitresses at the event.
