Monster mural transforms city avenue

Around 160 artists from Mexico and around the world have transformed a mundane Guadalajara avenue into a stunning, creative, colorful landmark.

The first “Meeting of Styles” held in the city saw the graffiti artists decorate 1.2 kilometers of wall space running alongside the railway track on Avenida Washington, from Mariano Otero to Enrique Diaz de Leon.

The eclectic designs are all highly technical and create a spectacular visual effect.

Working with aerosols from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, the artists and their helpers were serenaded by sound rigs set up at intervals along the avenue.

The “Meeting of Styles” project began in Germany in 2002 and takes place in a different country each year.  Artists must sign up to an international network before they are invited to participate.

Last weekend’s event was sponsored by the municipal government and the Jalisco Economic Promotion Secretary, the latter chipping in with some of the expenses of artists who had traveled to the city from other parts of Mexico and abroad.
