Steve Balfour, a model of community leadership

After serving more than three and a half years in top positions at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS), Steve Balfour has proved he has the chops to be the ideal community leader.

pg24aaAs he steams forward in the last year of his term as LCS president, he recently sat down for an interview with the Guadalajara Reporter to talk about the organization’s evolution over the past few years and the goals he is pursuing before leaving office.

Although too modest to take credit for the accomplishments that have made LCS more inclusive, Balfour and his team of officers, volunteers and paid staff have effectively fostered greater integration of expatriate immigrants and lakeside’s Mexican population. Balfour does deserve recognition for a major innovation: the Concerts in the Park events that have generated income for LCS operations and funding for various local charity groups and NGOs. And it’s no secret that he also invested personal financial resources to keep LCS afloat during the long months of the Covid-19 pandemic.
