LCS marshals Neill James tribute: Remembering the Petticoat Vagabond

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) will celebrate the legacy of Neill James, the organization’s principal patron and benefactor, with a series of special activities throughout 2025.

pg11aThe extended tribute begins on Sunday, January 12, with a remembrance event marking what would have been James’ 130th birthday.

This bilingual, multicultural program, set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is designed to involve the entire lakeside community, especially those whose lives were touched by James and the programs she initiated during her 50 years in Ajijic. The free event welcomes people of all ages and nationalities.

The day starts with roundtable discussions during the Open Circle gathering. Local residents will share personal recollections of James and her contributions to the community, while Ajijic Legacy Artists will discuss the children’s art programs she founded. The program also includes participatory activities for children, audio-visual memorials, historical artifact displays, live music and dance performances, village food vendors, bar service and a piñata-and-birthday-cake finale.
