Cathey Merrill’s stunning book, “Colección de Recuerdos,” is not only a remarkable tribute to Mexican artisans but also a heartfelt love story about a devoted Texan couple who shared incredible experiences as passionate collectors of folk art.
The 352-page book, subtitled “Collecting Memories Inspired by Mexican Folk Art,” was unveiled during a garden reception at La Nueva Posada on Monday, August 4. Cathey was surrounded by friends and admirers, including her son, Ron Merrill Jr., his wife, their daughters, and a number of Jalisco artisans who have become cherished acquaintances. Also present were key collaborators in the book’s production: photographer and editorial coordinator Antonio Velazco, book designer Emicel Guillén, translator Felix Bañuelos, and anthropologist Marta Turok, an expert in traditional Mexican textiles.
