Too many unanswered questions

Dear Editor:

There were no phone number or contact info on the members of the council (GR-Sept. 7-13). Will this be limited only to LCS Members or will the general public be able to use the service? There were too many questions left unanswered.

The, now defunct, Liaison Team had a working relationship with all members of the Chapala Government. The Team worked with members of the Presidente’s staff on problems with potholes, topes, water, sewage, power and street lighting. They also worked with the schools to change schedules for students with transportation problems. Members helped needy Mexican families get help from local charities. The team initiated the drive to get INS located in Chapala and provided translation services for the expat community having problems at city hall and other local government agencies. They suggested wifi on the Malecon, which occurred as money was made available. The Team guided entrepreneurs to the proper agencies in City Hall, promoted tourism by setting up bur trips to Tequila and Malls to benefit local charities, and remained strictly non-political.

There is much to be done and it will take a lot of personal time and money. Improvements in warranties for cars and auto interest rates could help all people in Jalisco. I asked a dealer about the warranty on a 2014 auto. I was told it was 10,000 KM or six months. North of the border, the identical car had a warranty of 1,600,000 KM or ten years.  North of the border they are advertising no interest for five years. Here it is 20+% down and 13.5% interest. Do they really need that much lender fees? Can an individual lease car in Mexico? That might increase business.

Customer service could be improved by competition or a government agency. Cable TV comes to mind. The local service has not broadcasted CNN for at least seven consecutive days. They say they are working on it. Weekend news shows and sports were out, because a cloud passed by on Saturday.  Forget getting service on the weekend.  My other choice is satellite TV. If another cable service were in town, the service might improve and rates go down.

To my knowledge, there is no BBB in town. Other than being ignored, what are the options for bad service? As I said, the Community Action Council has a big job, if it does what they implied they would do.
