Letters to the Editor - January 7, 2016

Dear Sir,

I am disappointed at the disparaging remarks in Mr. Perry King’s letter published in the last edition of the Reporter.

“Ladies you have lost the election. Live with it” is a very bigoted, misogynistic remark. He also should have checked Mexican regulations regarding “foreign political demonstrations,” as the editor pointed out.

Here are two quotations I live my life by:

“If you are silent in situations of injustice then you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” Desmond Tutu

“If I can no longer accept the things I cannot change then I will change the things I can no longer accept.”

I have been fighting for my own rights and independence since the 1960s and throughout my professional career. I cannot let this go by the wayside.

I will not be silent and will be marching on January 21, joined by likeminded people who stand up for what they believe in.

And here’s one more quotation:

“It isn’t time to give up, curl up, or shut up. It is time to stand up, act up and speak up. The threat isn’t the hate of some but the silence of many.” Cory  Brooker,  U.S. Senator, New Jersey

Should I expect the “alt right” at my door for speaking out? I hope not. It is my right!

Dear Sir,

I wanted to make a comment about the four ads in the last issue noting that “Millions of proud Americans elected President Trump please give him a chance.” If they are so proud why is there no mention of their names or the organization that paid for these ads?

Erin Blake-Knox

Editor’s note: Due to an oversight by our commercial department in Guadalajara, the name of the person who placed and paid for the four advertisements in question was omitted from the final display ads. At this stage, unfortunately we are unable to name the person who submitted the advertisements, suffice to say that it is an individual who resides in the Lake Chapala area.  In no manner does the content of the advertisements necessarily reflect the opinions of this newspaper.  We apologize for the lack of attribution.
