Letters To The Editor - November 23, 2024

Dear Sir,

You are doing your best to show your political bias.

For example, your article with the headline ‘Covid vaccine season begins’ shows a misleading caption under Robert Kennedy’s photo which describes him as an anti-vaxxer. Mr. Kennedy has made it clear on many occasions that he is not an anti-vaxxer. He has stated that he is simply anti covid vaccine.

You need to get your facts straight before you make such accusations.

Integrity is a word with a meaning that should be practiced by everyone and especially the media such as yours which can have an influential impact.

Larry Friesen

Editor responds: This is a moot point and open to interpretation. Kennedy’s statement that he doesn’t intend to prohibit vaccines is clearly noted in our article.  Opines Jonathan Berman, the author of “Anti-vaxxers: How to Challenge a Misinformed Movement” (MIT Press 2020): “Kennedy likes to say that he isn’t anti-vaccine and just wants them to be safe. Anti-vaxxers seldom self-identify as such, but his words and actions make the truth clear: Kennedy has been extremely prolific in promoting anti-vaccine views. His speech and writing have consistently undermined public confidence in immunization. His lawsuits have fought to share misinformation and expand vaccine exemptions. If someone consistently opposes vaccination, promotes vaccine misinformation, and works to dismantle vaccine programs, then the label ‘anti-vaxxer’ fits, regardless of how they describe themselves.”
