The Mexican peso has broken through the 16-peso barrier, and has fallen almost nine percent against the dollar since the start of the year.

Now at its lowest level for almost three decades, the peso has been affected by a weak global economy and the possibility of a rise in U.S. interest rates, most analysts agree.
