Canadians ready for turkey feasts

Local Canadians and everyone else who enjoys turkey dinners won’t go hungry on Canadian Thanksgiving Day on Monday, October 8.

While the Canadian Club’s annual dinner at La Nueva Posada is sold out (as always), another option is the feast served up by the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 7 in Chapala (Morelos 114),  with cocktails starting at 1 p.m. and dinner at 2 p.m. The menu will feature roast turkey with homemade stuffing and cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, broccoli salad, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie with or without whipped cream. There will be a 50/50 draw and, as is the custom with some Royal Canadian Legions, a meat draw. The price for this event is just 150 pesos and tickets are available at the post.

Meanwhile, three Ajijic restaurants are catering to their loyal Canadian clientele with Thanksgiving dinners.

La Bodega, Calle 16 de Septiembre 124, will serve dinner from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. The menu includes broccoli soup, green salad, roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and green beans. It’s pumpkin pie for dessert. The 220-peso price includes one glass of red or white wine. Regular menu will be available.  Entertainment will be provided by singer Carol Bedford from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Call (376) 766-1002 for reservations.

Roberto’s Restaurant, Carretera Pte. 35 (one block east of the Waffle House), will serve dinner from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The dinner starts with fresh crab bisque, salad with baby greens, nuts and dried fruit, roast turkey with trimmings, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, gravy, green beans and cranberry sauce or Steak Dianne or Salmon Dijon with the same trimmings. Dessert will be home made pumpkin praline pie with whipped cream or chocolate mousse. The price of 195 pesos also includes an after dinner Amaretto cream fizz. Call 766-1616 for reservations.

Salvador’s, Plaza Bugambilias, will have their traditional Thanksgiving buffet from noon to 7 p.m. with turkey and trimmings, baked ham, corn bread, various salads and mashed and sweet potatoes. Desserts will be pumpkin and pecan pies and other delicious treats. A glass of house wine or soda and tea or coffee is included for the 170-peso price. Call for reservations at 766-2301.
