Charros prepare for second season

The follow up to a very successful debut season for the Charros de Jalisco baseball team begins on the road Friday, October 9 against a familiar foe – the Tomateros de Culiacan.

The Charros lost to the Tomateros in the championship round of the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) in 2014-2015.

As soon as that game ends, both teams will fly down to Guadalajara for a one-off rematch on Saturday, October 10 at the Charros’ Estadio Telmex de Beisbol in Zapopan.

After an October 12-14 series in Hermosillo, the Charros are back home for two consecutive three-game series: against the Tomateros again on Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18; and the Mayos de Navojoa on Tuesday, October 20 through Thursday, October 22.

Spearheading the Charros’ effort to go one better than last season will be Manny Rodriguez, the LMP’s Most Valuable Player last year, and Brian Broderick of the United States, the league’s Relief Pitcher of the Year.

Although the final team roster will not be known until much closer to opening day, Charros coach Juan Navarrete – Manager of the Year last season – will be back at the helm.

The Charros’ pre-season takes place mostly on the road in provincial Jalisco towns such as Lagos de Moreno, La Barca and San Miguel el Alto. Two pre-season exhibition games, however, are scheduled at the Unidad Deportiva SUTAJ field in the Guadalajara suburb of Tlaquepaque on Monday, September 28, and Monday, October 5, both at 3 p.m. The stadium is at Hidalgo and Jose Guzman y Paz, just off Avenida Revolucion. To get there, turn on to Revolucion from Lazaro Cardenas (before the bus station) and go five blocks before turning right onto Hidalgo.  Go seven blocks further to find the stadium.

Charros’ Monday to Friday home games at the Telmex Stadium start at 8:30 p.m., Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at noon.

Cut-price tickets can be purchased for 25 pesos (obstructed view and 50 pesos (bleachers).  Regular seat prices range from 100 pesos (upper tier) to 500 pesos (premiere seating). Lower tier seating at 1st and 3rd bases costs 150 pesos, while seating directly behind the plate is 300 pesos.
