Atlas and Mexico soccer player Rafael Marquez has announced the reopening of his charities that assist disadvantaged children with their nutritional and educational needs.
His foundation, which runs three centers in the greater Guadalajara metropolitan area, was forced to suspend its operations following a U.S. Treasury report that alleged Marquez acted as a frontman and money launderer for a known drug trafficker.
In spite of the allegations, Marquez has not been charged with any crime in either the United States or Mexico, and reports suggest he is close to making a return to Atlas, the Guadalajara-based team that competes in the nation’s premier professional league – the Liga MX.
