Just as their namesakes in Houston, Texas, are showcasing their talents on the world’s most important baseball stage, the Guadalajara-based Astros de Jalisco are making their own waves in the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP).
After a Wednesday evening victory, the Astros are tied 1-1 with the Abejas de Leon in the LNBP Western Division semi-final. The third game in the best-of-five series is scheduled in Leon on Saturday, October 30.
The Astros topped their division in only their third season in the LNBP, and had the second best win-loss record in the league.
The Abejas edged a tight 96-95 win in the first game of the semi-final series held Tuesday at the Arena Astros (Polideportivo Avila Camacho) in Guadalajara. But the Astros bounced back the following night with a comfortable 101-93 victory, largely thanks to 24 points from their U.S. import Avry Holmes, and three triples from fellow countryman Jared Wilson-Frame.
Game four against the Abejas is set for Sunday, October 31, in Leon. If a decider is needed, the teams return to the Astros Arena for a do-or-die shoot-out on Wednesday, November 3, 8 p.m.
The Polideportivo Avila Camacho is on Avenida Avila Camacho, a few blocks from Plaza Patria. For more information, see astrosdejalisco.com.mx.
