Despite a brave effort against one of the top teams in the league, the Atlas women’s team were unable to replicate the success of their male counterparts, loosing to the Monterrey Rayadas in the semi final of the Liga MX Femenil.

Although Atlas won the first leg off the semi-final played last week in Guadalajara 1-0, Monterrey triumphed in the return game, coming out 2-1 winners.

With the aggregate score from the two games tied at 2-2, Monterrey advanced to the final by dint of their higher position in the regular season league table. They will face their hometown neighbors Tigres in the final — the fifth time these two teams have met in the season’s final game.

Atlas suffered heartbreak at the semi-final stage for the second consecutive season.
