Charros clinch 2nd Pacific League title

The Charros de Jalisco completed a stellar year for Guadalajara sports teams, clinching the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) championship on January 22, thanks to an 8-1 win over the Tomateros de Culiacán in game seven of the final series.

pg1bAlthough the Panamericano Stadium in Zapopan was only at 60 percent capacity due to Covid restrictions, the crowd and players celebrated the final out of the series with wild scenes of jubilation.

This is the Charros’ second LMP crown in its eighth year in the league. Their previous title was in 2019, when they defeated the Yaquis de Ciudad Obregon in six games.

The Charros had walked away with the first two home games of the series, and took one of the three road games to edge the series 3-2, before returning to Zapopan for the final two encounters last weekend. 

Culiacán sneaked game six 5-3, setting up last Saturday’s winner-take-all decider. 

From the start, the Charros batters ruled the day, putting three runs on the board by the the end of the second innings, with 14 hits in total.
