Charros return to the diamond: Home games start April 25-27

The Charros de Jalisco are back in action after a brief break after winning the Mexican Pacific League title in January.

The Guadalajara-based team will now compete in the summer Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB), which is considered the more prestigious and competitive of Mexico’s two professional leagues.   The Charros are one two teams to compete in both leagues.

The season begins on April 19, but local fans will have to wait until the April 22-24 series against Algodoneros de Unión Laguna to see the team play. The first home weekend series at the Panamericano Stadium in Zapopan will be held from Friday to Sunday, April 25-27, against the Rieleros de Aguascalientes. The team will remain at home for a Tuesday to Thursday series (April 29-May 1) against the Toros de Tijuana.

The Charros have three home series scheduled for May: May 9-11 (Friday to Sunday), May 16-18 (Friday to Sunday), and May 20-22 (Tuesday to Thursday).

Weekday home games start at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 6 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m. Tickets for Charros games can be purchased online at boletomovil.com or at the stadium box office.

The 4,000-seat Estadio Panamericano de los Charros is located at Sta. Lucía 373, Colonia Tepeyac in Zapopan, just a few blocks from the northern Guadalajara Periférico (ring road). There is ample parking at the adjacent Auditorio Telmex.

Founded in 1925, the LMB is the oldest professional sports league in Mexico. The league consists of 20 teams, divided into North and South divisions. Each team plays 114 games during the season.

The Charros were champions in 1967 and 1971 and runners-up in 1950. The Diablos Rojos of Mexico City lead the league with 17 championships, including three back-to-back titles.
