If you woke up to the delights of soccer during the long World Cup, you might want to take the experience further by catching one of Guadalajara’s two Liga MX teams, Chivas or Atlas, in person over the next five months.
The Apertura 2026 tournament kicked off last weekend and runs through the playoffs in December. Chivas — one of Mexico’s most successful clubs — sent five players to the Mexican national team’s World Cup squad and despite missing that quintet for the recent Clausura 2026 playoffs, the team still fought its way to the semifinals. With the full squad back together, Chivas is expected to challenge for the title once again.
After a disappointing 0-2 loss to Toluca in the opening game of the season, Chivas will be hoping for improvement in this weekend’s clash with FC Juárez at the Estadio Akron. The game kicks off at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. Further home dates are: Tijuana (Saturday, August 22, 5 p.m.), Pumas (Sunday, September 13, 6 p.m.), Querétaro (Saturday, September 26, 5 p.m.), Tigres (Saturday, October 17, 5 p.m.), Necaxa (Tuesday, October 20, 9 p.m.), Atlante (Saturday, October 31, 7 p.m.) and Cruz Azul (Sunday, November 22, 5 p.m.). For those willing to travel and experience one of the most famed stadiums in the world, there’s the Clásico Nacional against América at the famous Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on September 19.
Atlas’ first home date at the Estadio Jalisco comes on Saturday, August 1 against Monterrey, kicking off at 7 p.m. Subsequent matches are: Tigres (Saturday, August 15, 9 p.m.), Queretero (Saturday, August 29, 7 p.m.), Atlante (Saturday, September 5, 9 p.m.), Pumas (Saturday, September 19, 5 p.m.), Chivas (Saturday, October 10, 7 p.m.), América (Wednesday, October 21, 7 p.m.) Puebla (Sunday, October 25, 5 p.m.) and Pachuca (Saturday, November 7, 5 p.m.).
Atlas’ game with local rivals Chivas is one of the most fiercely contested derbies in Mexican soccer and worth planning around if you only make it to one game all season.
