Guadalajara wins Youth Olympics nomination

This will be the second time Guadalajara has bid for the Youth Olympics, having previously lost out to Nanjing, China for the 2014 Games. This time round there is a greater chance of success, as the city has now proved it can host major sporting events and already has most of the necessary facilities and sporting infrastructure in place.

The Youth Olympic Games pit athletes aged 14 to 18 against each another. The first Games were held in Singapore in 2010. Guadalajara will be competing to host the 2018 Games against Buenos Aires, Argentina; Medellin, Colombia; the Hague, Holland; Buya, Nigeria; Kazan, Russia; and Glasgow, Scotland.
