City center’s motorized cops

The futuristic looking vehicles are 80 centimeters wide and 1.15 meters long. Capabale of reaching speeds of 50 kilometers per hour, they can overcome 15-centimeter-high obstacles and fit through doors and even elevators.

The head of Guadalajara’s Department of Public Safety, Ignacio Salazar Mariscal, said that an increased police presence has resulted in a 50-percent reduction in crime downtown and in Chapultepec, although he supplied no data to back up this claim.

Besides those equipped with motorized tricycles, there are another 70 policemen working the beat in these areas, equipped with bicycles, motorbikes or on foot.
