The line will be extended one kilometer across the northern periferico (city beltway) and a new terminal added, to be called “Auditorio,” in reference to the nearby Benito Juarez Auditorium. This will create thousands of new passengers living in neighborhoods to the north of the city, says state Transportation Secretary Mauricio Gudiño.
In addition, all 19 stations on the line, which runs 15.5 kilometers north-south along Calzada Federalismo, will be remodeled and expanded.
The platforms will be extended from 60 to 90 meters in anticipation of an expected 30 percent increase in passenger traffic in the coming years.
The changes will increase daily passenger capacity from 135,000 to 240,000, Gudiño says.
Major esthetic alterations at the stations are incorporated in the project, along with technical operational upgrades, including the installation of card readers for pre-paid ticketing.
