Downed electricity posts cause 3-hour traffic gridlock

They would surely have thought differently had they been stuck in a jam Monday that saw traffic tail back from the Los Cubos interchange on Lazaro Cardneas to the Rancho Contento subdivision on the Nogales highway (around seven kilometers).

The congestion was provoked by a morning rush-hour accidentat the intersection of Lazaro Cardenas and Santa Teresa de Jesus – a block from the abstract Cubos sculpture – that downed two concrete CFE electricity posts and forced traffic authorities to close the west-bound lanes of Lazaro Cardenas.

Traffic officers called to the scene diverted vehicles onto other avenues such as Clouthier and Mexico, that soon became congested themselves. Within a short pace of time, a large swath of the zone, including the Periferico, was mired in gridlock.

Some motorists complained of being stuck in their vehicles for around three hours before they finally passed through the congestion.

Traffic flow soon returned to normal once CFE workers removed the fallen posts.
