Archdiocese compares abortion & animal cruelty

Under the heading, “Killing puppies, killing babies. Which matters more?” the article says news coverage of the recent incident in which a man set fire to eight puppies was “disproportionate” compared to the horror of abortion.

Notes the editorial: “Death to puppies: social cataclysm. Death to babies: the celebration of a legal right. Is this humanity’s new frontier?”

Ignoring the argument that the two issues might be poles apart in their nature, the article appears to minimize the motivations of the 7,000 people who signed a petition calling for tougher penalties for persons who are guilty of animal cruelty.  Without ever saying directly that those who stand up for the rights of animals are misguided, the archdiocese strongly suggests that the priorities of many animal welfare activists are skewed and that the superiority of humans over animals is pre-determined and non-negotiable.
