‘Mi Bici’ project to use sturdy Canadian bikes

Authorities also announced the name of the new program, “Mi Bici,” chosen by the public in an online vote conducted in April.
Based on bike-sharing programs in New York, London and Melbourne, among others, Mi Bici will operate out of 86 “docking stations,” whose installation will begin in October.

Users will be able to rent a bike with a personalized access key or card or (perhaps) by using chip and PIN payment.  Cost is dependent on the length of hire.

At first, 976 bikes will be put into operation in the Guadalajara municipality, with another 300 added in Zapopan over the course of 2015.
The system is being installed by the Canadian firm Bixi, which started the not-for-profit public bicycle sharing system in Montreal in 2007 before expanding to other cities around the world.
