Feds make large-scale drug busts in Tlajomulco

Federal police are patting themselves on the back after securing two large drug hauls in the municipality of Tlajomulco in recent days.

Officers on a routine patrol came across three air-conditioned marijuana greenhouses housing around 7,000 plants in area of around 2,200 square meters.

The National Security Commission (CNS) said 25 people were arrested, among them 22 Colombians.  They had apparently been hired on the Internet and received payment in dollars. All the foreigners have been provided with consular assistance.

According to the CNS, some of the plants had been genetically modified, presumably to improve the quality of the final product.

A few days later, federal police and soldiers discovered 5.3 tons of marijuana packed into boxes at a warehouse in the Colonia Jardines del Zapote neighborhood of Tlajomulco.

Police reports said officers were alerted to the stash after they observed two men loading drug packets into a van at the property.   The men fled once they realized they were under observation.

The CNS also reported that five marijuana plantations covering an area of 15,000 square meters were discovered last weekend near Rosa Blanca, Nayarit in the municipality of Jala.
