City’s hotel boom kicks on

Investors are set to plow some $US150 million into 18 new hotels in the Guadalajara metropolitan area over the next two years, says Miguel Angel Fong, president of the Jalisco Hotel and Motel Association.

The number of rooms in the city will increase from 22,000 to more than 24,500.  Over the past 12 months, hotel occupancy in three-, four- and five-star hotels has risen by 9 percent, well above the nation average of five percent. The new hotels will offer a diverse range of options, including boutique, executive and luxury facilities. Brand names on the list of investors include Aloft, City Express, Fiesta Americana, Hilton Garden Inn, Quinta Inn, Hyatt, Marriott, NH and Wyndham.
