School transport plan

State authorities are launching a school transport initiative in a bid to reduce the 335,000 car trips made by parents each day in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

The program would be voluntary for children enrolled in private schools and is expected to be ready by the first semester of 2016. Writing in the Informador, columnist Alfonso Petersen remarked that the program’s success depends on the support of parents, mischievously noting that the ride to school is often the only chance they have to converse at any length with their children.
