Popular casino closed on safety grounds

Guadalajara municipal inspectors, accompanied by police officers, shut down the popular Twin Lions casino adjoining Plaza Mexico in the early hours of Sunday morning, citing security risks for clients.

Clients were forced to abandon money they had invested in games as they were asked to leave the premises. The situation became chaotic as around 100 people requested their vehicles from the valet parking attendants at the same time.

Later, Police Commissioner Salvador Caro said inflammable material had been discovered in the basement of the casino. In addition, the establishment did not have municipal licenses on display and many of the gaming machines lacked official stickers authorizing their use, he said.
