UdG, US Consulate inaugurate ‘American Space’ in state library

The U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara and the University of Guadalajara (UdG) have come together to sign into being a local iteration of an “American Space” in the Juan Jose Arreola State Library in Zapopan.

American Space is made up of a network of 700 locations in 152 countries which act to promote cultural interchange and education between the United States and host countries.  The addition brings the number of American Spaces in Mexico to six, the other five being located in Mexico City, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Monterrey and Tuxtla Gutierrez.

Present at the signing event were UdG Rector Tonatiuh Bravo Padilla, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Roberta Jacobson and Tanya Anderson, the U.S. consul general in Guadalajara.

The Jalisco chapter of American Space will in addition function as the second office on a UdG campus of EducationUSA, an entity of the U.S. State Department that, according to its website (educationusa.state.gov), “promotes higher education to students around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States.”
