City dog agility business accused of animal abuse

The Delta Club Agility in the Colli neighborhood of Guadalajara has been slapped with a closure order following the discovery of sick and undernourished dogs during an inspection by the Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) and Zapopan municipal authorities.

Municipal officials removed eleven puppies and three adult Border Collies, reports say.

According to the Facebook group Border Collie in Guadalajara, which helped file the initial complaint, ten of the 14 dogs recued from the business have since been diagnosed with canine distemper.

Although the facility only had a limited license to operate as a “estetica animal” (beauty clinic for animals), Delta Club also bred and sold canines, and operated as a pet hotel.

According to news reports, Profeco had received complaints from buyers who said that some of the dogs died within weeks of being purchased from Delta.

Border Collie in Guadalajara had also highlighted the undernourished and unhealthy condition of the canines, as well as the cramped conditions they were housed in. \

The official report on last week’s raid detailed several violations of Zapopan’s municipal animal protection ordinances.
