Traffic is moving more slowly in Guadalajara than six years ago, a new study shows.
Despite major infrastructure works, including new bridges and tunnels, the average traffic speed in metro area Guadalajara is 22 kilometers per hour, down from 24 kilometers per hour in 2013. The study, by Mide Jalisco, also highlights a marked increase in the number of vehicles circulating on Guadalajara streets and avenues during the past six years.
While traffic is not yet at the saturation levels of some other major cities in the world, the results of the study will be disappointing to the outgoing state administration, which had set a goal of increasing average traffic speed in the city to 26 kilometers per hour by the end of 2018.
