Furniture giant Ikea will not be opening its first store in this country in Guadalajara, as was reported last year.
But while Mexico City will be home to the inaugural Ikea store – scheduled to open in 2020 – furniture manufacturers in Jalisco may collaborate with the Swedish firm. According to Alebardo Arreola, president of the Asociacion de Fabricantes de Muebles de Jalisco, at least ten companies in the state have the opportunity of supplying Ikea with locally-produced products, both ready-made and for self assembly. The first Ikea store in Mexico is planned for the capital’s Colonia Oceano district. It will offer around 7,500 products. Guadalajara and Monterrey are the next cities where Ikea plans to open stores.
