Fire-fighting heroes return home

The 101 firefighters dispatched to help battle forest fires in the province of Alberta, Canada, have returned home.

The group comprised 77 officers assigned to the state Environment Ministry (Semadet), seven from the Protección Civil y Bomberos Zapopan, seven from the Bosque La Primavera Decentralized Public Organization, one firefighter from the state Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry (Sader) and one from the municipality of Tala.

According to Semadet coordinator Antonio Aguayo, the team covered an area of 286 kilometers around the perimeters of the forest fires, extinguishing blazes in 318 points.  Some took more than two days to extinguish, he noted.

Aguayo said that thanks to their training, members of the Jalisco group were able to handle a range of sophisticated equipment that was available to fight the fires.
