The tradition of creating a new Guinness record during each edition of Guadalajara’s International Mariachi Festival will continue at this year’s bash.
Local folk dancers are being urged to dust off their shoes and outfits to participate in the largest baile folclorico (for couples) ever staged anywhere in the world.
The dancers will congregate in the giant Plaza Liberacion (between the Cathedral and Teatro Degollado) on Saturday, August 24, 4 p.m. as they attempt to set a new world record, in the presence of Guinness adjudicators. This is a great opportunity for keen photographers/videographers to get some memorable images/footage.
In previous years, records have been set for the greatest number of people singing “Cielito Lindo,” culling agave “piñas,” rope hopping, and more.
The 26th edition of the Festival Internacional de Mariachi y Charreria runs from August 23 to September 1. Look for further details in the next two editions of this newspaper.
