E-scooter trial set for November

Firms operating electric scooter sharing ventures are chomping at the bit to get their services up and running in metro-area Guadalajara.

pg4bMovo, a subsidiary of Cabify, has been investing in initial infrastructure based on promises that both Guadalajara and Zapopan city halls will permit the deployment of e-scooters. U.S.-based companies Lime and Frog are also keen to bring the e-scooter sharing revolution to the metropolitan area, reports indicate.

Miguel Abad, Movo’s global director, told local news outlets this week of his concerns that despite the go-ahead by state and municipal governments to start pilot programs in Guadalajara and Zapopan in November, no regulatory framework or details of how e-scooter sharing will operate in practice have yet been published.

Mexico City recently launched a “dockless” e-scooter trial program and the jury is still out, residents there say. Issues include scooters blocking sidewalks, theft and risks to pedestrians and motorists, according to news reports.
