Jalisco is on the verge of debuting a new political party, spearheaded by Pedro Kumamoto, the state’s first independent legislator.
Over the past 12 months, activists from the Futuro party – the vast majority of them under age 30 – have held assemblies in 84 municipalities and obtained the 18,000 affiliations needed to register the new party under the rules of the Jalisco Electoral Institute (IPEC). A required “constitutive assembly” held last week was attended by 65 Futuro party delegates.
