Women took to the streets of Guadalajara in unprecedented numbers Sunday, March 8 (International Women’s Day) as part of nationwide protests against femicide, gender violence and inequality.
An estimated 35,000 people – 95 percent of them female – joined in the march, which flowed from the downtown Plaza Universidad to the Niños Heroes Glorieta (now unofficially renamed the Monument to the Disappeared), and was led by family members of femicide victims.
