77 percent of Covid-19 cases in metro area

As of Wednesday, August 12, Jalisco’s Health Department (SSJ) reported 38,017 confirmed Covid-19 infections detected under its Radar system.

for no 7Just over three-quarters of these cases (77.17 percent) are in the Guadalajara metropolitan area: municipal Guadalajara has 13,348 cases (35.11 percent), Zapopan 7,321 cases (19.26 percent), Tlaquepaque 3,186 cases (8.38 percent), Tlajomulco 2,326 cases (6.10 percent), Tonala 2,137 cases (5.62 percent) and El Salto 815 cases (2.14 percent).

Puerto Vallarta has 2,288 confirmed cases (6.02 percent), Chapala 58 and Jocotepec 80.

The total of confirmed cases in Mexico announced by federal health authorities on Thursday evening stood at 505,751, although they admit this figure is significantly underreported due to limited testing.

As of Wednesday, the Covid-19 fatality toll in Jalisco was 1,904 – 3.48 percent of Mexico’s total of 54,666. Municipal Guadalajara has registered 739 deaths – 38.81 percent of the state’s total.

Jalisco has reported more fatalities than South Korea (305), Japan (1,066) and Portugal (1,764).

On Tuesday of this week, the number of “active” cases (people infected within the last 14 days) in the state was 3,163. Exactly one month ago, this figure was 2,460, while two months ago it was 1,759.
