The former mayor of Guadalajara, businessman and engineer Enrique Dau Flores, has died at the age of 83 after a heart attack.
Dau Flores was municipal president of Guadalajara at the time of the tragic April 22, 1992, sewer line explosions that killed more than 200 people. He was forced to resign and spent nearly six months behind bars before he was absolved of any responsibility.
Dau Flores was founder of the College of Civil Engineers of the State of Jalisco and president of the Board of the State Water Commission in the administration of former governor Aristóteles Sandoval.
If not for the explosions, many political observers believed Dau Flores would have almost certainly made a bid for governor of Jalisco.
