Bombshell federal official brings insurance plan to Chapala single moms

Gloria Judith Maldonado Rojas, glamorous Jalisco delegate for the federal Ministry of Social Development (Sedesol), was greeted by a full house of women and children when she arrived at Chapala’s DIF family service center on Wednesday, August 28.

The purpose of her visit was to kick off registration for Seguro de Vida para Jefas de Familia, a new government-funded life insurance program for single mothers who get by on limited means.

The benefit is available to women ages 12 to 68 who are raising children on their own on poverty level earnings of less than 2,130 pesos per month.  In case of death, surviving offspring will be eligible for monthly stipends of up to 1,800 pesos each to continue their education until reaching the age of 24.

Saying she was delighted and honored to be welcomed by such as huge crowd, Rojas stressed that she is working under the ideology she shares with President Enrique Peña Nieto, “No more public officials tied to their desks. You shouldn´t have to come look for us. On the contrary, we have to be there to serve you and seek you out.”

With statistics showing the that single women head nearly 3,500 households in the municipality of Chapala, the agency’s goal is to sign up 2,250 mothers in the Jefas de Familia insurance plan.

Rojas made a point of praising Mayor Joaquin Huerta for his conscientious efforts to tap into the various Sedesol social assistance programs targeted to aid seniors, students and underprivileged families, as well as improve living standards in low income neighborhoods.

As she departed from the event, Rojas worked her way through the throng, stopping to listen to many individual woes and offer a warm embrace of solidarity.

The bombshell federal official has become a controversial public figure over the years of working her way up the political ladder. As a single mother herself, she has gained both sympathy and disdain from distaff side. Her year-old son is rumored to be the product of a tryst with Governor Aristoteles Sandoval prior to his election, while an older child is said to have been fathered by prominent politico Jorge Arana, the incumbent mayor of Tonala.
