Field hands find corpse

Drawn by an intense stench of death, a pair of local field hands discovered the badly decomposed body of a man while they  were cutting down brush on the hillside above the Chapala-Ajijic Libramiento early Wednesday, September 11.

The corpse was hidden among weeds growing in a ravine, located about 200 meters from the junction opposite the Conalep high school where the by-pass meets a dirt road leading up towards the mountains.

According to Chapala policechief Ramon del Arco, the dead man was found fully dressed in good quality sportswear and lying face down hidden in the bush. He estimates that his death occurred four to eight days before the body was located.

The condition of the body made it impossible to immediately determine the person’s age and cause of death. There no apparent signs of evidence indicating execution by organized crime groups.State forensic officers were called to the scene to retrieve the body for transport to the Ocotlan morgue where official autopsies are performed.

At press time the individual’s identity remained unknown. Since the police department has no recent missing persons reports on file, del Arco speculates that he may not have been a local resident.
