Gang fingered in 2014’s first murder

Sigifredo Hernández Sanabria, age 36, goes down in the books as Chapala’s first 2014 homicide victim after being gunned down in his home by a gang of masked men.

The deadly incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 21 near the intersection of Calle Vista and Tepehua, located in a scruffy neighborhood at the north end of town.

Red Cross paramedics rushed to the scene, only to find that Sanabria had already expired from multiple gunshot wounds. His wife identified the corpse, providing only scant details of the culprits other than witnessing them flee in a black van immediately after the shooting occurred. She said she had no inkling as to the motive of the crime. The case is under investigation by Jalisco’s specialized homicide squad.
