New traffic scheme laid out for Ajijic

Ajijic administrator Héctor España has drawn up a blueprint for turning five central village streets into one-way thoroughfares as a tactic to help remedy traffic congestion that has become a common vexation for local motorists.

España recently submitted the proposal to regional traffic department commandant José de Jesús Vargas Michel, who is now requesting the collection of citizen signatures to help persuade his superiors at the state’s Secretaría de Movilidad to give the plan a green light.

Under the new scheme, traffic flow Calles Aldama, Encarnación Rosas and Francisco Villa would be changed from two-way, to run north-to-south only.  Calle Aldama would switch into a one-way street headed south-to north. And Calle Ocampo would be reduced to a one-way direction between Rio Zula and Seis Esquina, to become a west-to-east roadway going all the way across town.

Native and expat residents who wish to support the cause are encouraged to stop by the Delegacíon office opposite the plaza to add their signatures to the petition. The only requirement for legitimatizing your John Hancock is to show an official identification document such as an Immigration residency ID, passport or INE voter registration card.
