Cruz Roja Mexicana is soliciting public support for relief efforts to aid more than two million victims of the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Nepal on April 25.
Donations may be deposited either in branch offices of Bancomer, account 0404040406, or Banamex, account 965.
Funds are also being accepted through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies website at www.ifrc.org.
Due to distance and cost considerations, the Mexican Red Cross has ruled out the collection and shipment of food and goods for assistance to the thousands of people who were injured and displaced by the disaster.
A Cruz Roja team of Urban Search and Rescue specialists – including three staffers from Chapala’s Red Cross station – remains on standby in case extra manpower is needed to dig in the ruins of the Himalayan nation.
