Dogs to show off skills at Ajijic agility competition

The Western Agility Organization (TWAO) holds its third official USDAA dog agility competition at the Hotel Perico in Ajijic Saturday, Sunday and Monday, April 29 and 30 and May 1. 

The competition runs from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. Competitors will be coming from across Mexico to support the growth of dog agility in Mexico. More than 60 talented dogs are expected to compete at this exciting event, which is TWAO’s third in Ajijic in the past three years. This competition will be run under USDAA rules, which can be accessed at usdaa.com. Dogs run in size categories from 8 to 24 inches for “Championship” courses, and 8 to 20 inches for “Performance” courses. 

Performance agility is considered recreational and accommodates older dogs. Dogs running at Championship and Performance level, however, are seeking qualification points to compete at the Cynosport World Games. Officiating will be judge Chris Dyer from Grapevine, Texas, who has 17 years experience in dog agility with two border collies, Reilly and Reagan. Dyer began judging in 2003 and became a masters judge in 2013.  Spectators are welcome and there is no entry fee to attend.  Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.This event is being organized through Agility Jalisco, and Western Agility Organization.Hotel Perico is located at Libramiento 2000, kilometer 2.5 in San Antonio (entrance adjacent to the Michelin Tire Shop).
