Scenes of the Chapala area appeared in “The Wonder of Us,” the brand new Coca Cola ad that debuted during last Sunday’s Super Bowl commercial breaks.
The 60-second spot was created as the first in a series of 2018 ads for the “A Coke for Everyone” communications platform designed to transmit an optimistic message about diversity by showing people from all walks of life drinking the top brand soda in multiple settings. The Chapala sequences were filmed in mid-December at several different locations.
You have to have an eagle eye to catch the local images that flash by as the ad plays at lightning speed. A man in wheelchair doing a flip at the Ajijic Malecón pops up 29 seconds from the start. Then there’s a quick take of a woman gazing out at the lake with arms raised at the 45-second mark. And the final clip looks like a panoramic view of the lake captured at sunset.
