Anaya formally named Chapala mayor-elect

Moisés Anaya Aguilar has been declared Chapala’s mayor-elect following the July 10 announcement of the final vote breakdown.

pg2aaaWith modifications of the preliminary tallies registered in the definitive ballot count, his edge over Alejandro Aguirre Curiel narrowed to slender lead of only 47 votes.

Anaya has been credited with 6,813 votes, compared to Aguirre’s 6,766. Outgoing Mayor Javier Degollado González pulled in 4,974 votes. Sibling Gerardo Degollado González came fourth with 2,879, while Diego Castro Morales racked up a 1,179 total. Andrea Garcia Mariscal finished with 289 votes, with Esperanza Mejía Carvajal trailing at the bottom with 221.

Under the mathematic formula established by law, the Anaya administration will come aboard with seven seats on the city council. Aguirre earned two places on the governing body, with the Degollado brothers each taking one spot.

The new government takes charge on October 1.
