Ajijic is the latest lakeshore town to be identified with its name displayed at the waterfront Malecón with Mexico’s largest lake as a scenic backdrop.
The multi-colored metal letters adorned with figures representing the town’s natural and cultural attributes were installed on a cement base situated west of the pier just before the skate park. The project was funded by Fidetur Tourism Trust Fund, which reserves local hotel taxes for investment in promotions for the area, in cooperation with local restaurateur Jambo Corona. The structure debuted last week to mixed reviews, some inhabitants suggested that the signature sign is a worn out concept and lacks originality of design in a place renowned for artistic talents.
