Festival de Aves puts winged wonders front & center

The Lake Chapala Bird Festival, held each year under the auspices of Instituto Corazón de la Tierra (ICT), is taking place through Sunday, June 9, with a program of activities starting in the framework of the local government’s Sustainable Energy Expo running this weekend at the Chapala Malecón.

pg11aVisitors to the expo will find the Festival de las Aves information table offering materials related to Lake Chapala, its forest areas and bird population, plus a photo display of winged species captured on camera by José Moreno. The booth is operating this Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. and again June 8 and 9, noon to 2 p.m.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week the festival team will conduct environmental education workshops at local schools.

ICT will spearhead a plastics clean-up campaign in the tourist zone at San Nicolas de Ibarra on Tuesday, June 4, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A round-table discussion on the conservation of Lake Chapala is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, open to the public 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia, Avenida Madero next door to Citibanamex. Join a guided bird walk at La Cristianía Park Sunday, June 9, 7:30 a.m.
