A throng of spectators crammed the Ajijic soccer field Saturday, September 14 to catch the traditional Regata de Globos where 12 teams of villagers gathered to launch scores of colorful tissue paper hot air balloons hand-crafted in diverse sizes and shapes.
Due to strong wind conditions that prevailed throughout the afternoon, many of the largest and most spectacular models wobbled ominously in the air upon take-off, catching fire and turning to ash before they could sail off into the sky.
