The national strike #UnDíaSinNosotras that took place nationwide on March 9 was partially echoed in Chapala, where women were notably absent from public, banking, educational institutions, but less so out on the street and in marts of trade.
Many local women were seen going about daily routines, making purchases at the public market place at the plaza and the weekly Barata street market.
In the commercial sector, females were on the job at a number of businesses. “If we don’t work, we don’t get earnings to eat,” remarked supermarket employee Amalia Ramos who expressed moral support for the Day Without Women movement.
